Milk collection driver, Laïta Yffiniac (22)

Ever since school Charlène has dreamed of driving around the country roads in a lorry. At the age of 31 and after working for Laïta at the Yffiniac site (22) for four years as a milk collection driver, her dream has finally become a daily reality.

Charlène, milk collection driver

Her job combines her passions for driving, contact with the world of farming and animals. Her journey started with a vocational baccalaureate in CGEA (Farming and Farm Management), followed by a specialisation in farm products which led to a job in yoghurt production. Making the most of her personal training record, she then passed her driving tests. Her HGV licence was funded by Pôle Emploi, and for her internship she worked at Laïta. “I started as a temporary cargo handler and was offered a permanent contract after six months. My work colleague Jean-Philippe suggested I should be a milk collection driver and that’s how I became his partner. We collect milk on the same route.”

Since then, Charlène has been enjoying her work to the full. She likes the autonomy it offers, the active work and the technical side of it as well as the responsibility - she’s the first one to carry out quality checks on the milk when she collects it. She also likes talking to the farmers. Charlène is one of few women employed in this occupation, and she gets enormous satisfaction from it.

If she were to move on, she would want to share her passion with others: “I’d really like to pass on my knowledge and my passion to new recruits,” she concludes.
