Prioritising health & well-being at work

Security and safety in the workplace are two priority issues for Laïta. Staff at all sites have access to well-being workshops, such as the muscle warm-up sessions offered at Lanfains in Côtes d’Amor.

Muscle warm-ups welcomed

“Our muscle warm-up sessions were established at Laïta Lanfains in spring 2023, serving 67 staff members across two facilities. The initiative came in response to complaints from production workers who were experiencing pain due to the repetitive nature of their daily work. The impulse came from the management team, and we enlisted the help of a consultancy firm specialising in ergonomics. We then set up a multi-disciplinary working group to bring the project to fruition, consisting of machine operators, our own health & safety department and local commentators. We put out a call internally for ambassadors who were trained in delivering muscle warm-up sessions, and got 30 volunteers, which goes to show just how seriously people take it! “At the same time we carried out awareness raising for all staff on musculo-skeletal problems.”

Physical preparation for work

" We set up three sessions to cater for people starting their shifts at different times - 5am, 1pm and 9pm - to prepare their bodies physically for work. The warm-up sessions last 5-7 minutes and consist of exercises targeting the problem areas: wrist stretches, core strength, squats, etc. The warm-ups have been extremely well received and have now become part of the daily routine. There’s a good atmosphere at the sessions and they create a sense of harmony among teams. The sessions are also an opportunity to flag up problems and note issues that others may be experiencing, and alter your movements to ease discomfort if necessary. To maintain the impetus of the approach, we change the sessions regularly and train new facilitators to lead them.”

“Muscle warm-ups can prevent musculo-skeletal problems and boost team spirit.”
