“I’m based at site 29 where I coordinate programmes and projects to enable teams to achieve a common objective. Just like an orchestra conductor, I endeavour to get everyone working together, aiming for perfect harmony between experts, departments and occupations. In 2023 I was appointed to the Kintsugi* programme, the remit of which is to upgrade our dry dairy ingredient facilities to map out a 10-year powdered milk production strategy, prioritising the functional maintenance of equipment and incorporating the carbon trajectory. The first stage involves drafting a hygiene report on the facilities, processes, regulations, materials flows, etc. The aim is to improve everything that can be improved and replace anything that’s obsolete with new, efficient equipment. In this respect we’re investigating more energy-efficient alternatives to replace the evaporators currently used for pre-concentrating the milk.”
Preserving air quality
“We’re also considering the advantages of a patented process for in-line powdered milk production on a scraped surface exchanger, which doesn’t involve a drying tower. Another example is that, as of December 2023, the release of powder into the atmosphere is restricted to 10mg/m3 in accordance with European regulations. We’re looking into the possibility of installing filters to recycle the fines, or installing air scrubbers like those already installed at our other facilities to recover the mixture of fines and water for pig feed.”
