The Madame Loïk cheese plant pushes its boundaries

The modernisation projects for our industrial facilities form a systematic part of a strategy for ecological and energy transition.

Créhen cheese dairy (22) modernizes and expands

Gilles Meurou, Cheese Plant Manager, Laïta, Créhen (22)

" We invest nearly 40 million euros every year in modernising and diversifying out facilities and logistics in the name of sustainability. Gilles tells us about the work currently underway at our cheese plant in Créhen (22). Laïta has committed 22 million euros in a five-year investment plan to support double-digit growth for Madame Loïk whipped cheese and respond to the changing demands of its key industrial clients. The Créhen (22) cheese plant is being modernised and expanded to take the production capacity up to 20,000 tonnes. Phase 1 involved optimising processes, installing new technologies, improving working conditions on the shopfloor with improvements to buildings, and introducing new equipment: lift tables, drawer units, palettes, walkways for access to ripening tanks, etc. "

Several phases of work

Two new buildings have been completed so far

" One of them housing the offices and maintenance workshop, which came into service in March 2022, the other housing new changing rooms for staff accessing the production and packaging sections, which has been operational since the beginning of the year.

Phase 2 is now underway, involving expansion of the production premises. The total floor space of the cheese factory will increase from 8,000 to 12,000 m2. We are currently working on the layout before installing the new production lines, which should become operational in 2025. The teams are eager to move into their new premises which will reflect the success of Madame Loïk, sales of which have quadrupled in the last ten years making it the third most popular spreadable cheese brand in France - an honour of which we are collectively proud."

The cheese factory is being expanded to support the growth of our spreadable cheeses, including the flagship brand Madame Loïk.
